All About Stricta Black Tip

Tillandsia Stricta Black Tip is a beautiful stricta with soft, dark green leaves that slightly recurve. It has an open rosette and if given enough light, the leaf tips turn black. It sports gorgeous pink flowers when in bloom.

Stricta is a huge Tillandsia species with many different cultivators and hybrids. They are endemic to South America and Trinidad. They grow in many different environments from the forest floor to cliff sides to trees.

These are medium-sized air plants with most growing to 4-8 inches wide. They can grow much larger if allowed to grow as a specimen, also known as an air plant clump. The symmetrical growth pattern allows for a nearly perfectly round clump.

As with other cultivators of stricta, it’s easy to care for and a great air plant for beginners.

These beauties are easy to care for and are one of my favorite air plants for beginners. They need bright indirect light to maintain the black tips. If the black color starts fading to green, give it more light. They grow very well in medium light but will have a solid green color.

If it gets too dry, the leaves will start to fold inwards and the plant will deflate a little. Once it’s hydrated, the leaves will open and the plant will fill out. Check out our How to Water Air Plants Guide.
